Dranouter is one of those places where you take a deep breath of fresh air when you step out of the car. Whether it is the smell of autumn, the unspoilt freshness of spring or the warm glow of a summer's evening… The confrontation with the magnificent natural beauty is always a breathtaking experience.
Heuvelland, the amalgamated municipality of which Dranouter is a formerly independent municipality, borders on French Flanders and lies undisturbed in the lee between Rijsel, Ieper and Poperinge.
The region has a rich history. There are numerous memorials, monuments and cemeteries from the First World War, silent witnesses of heroic deeds that should never have taken place. Further back through time, more specifically in the 16th century, it was the Protestants who made the area unsafe. They mainly had it in for the rich Catholics, until the Duke of Alva came to sort things out.
However, it is particularly the mysticism of this remote location, hidden behind the Kemmel hills, which holds the greatest attraction for our guests.
